Three tiers of accommodation are arranged on a unique and linear-shaped site. A butterfly roof floats above the building and reinforces the oblique south east view. The dramatic top-down entry arrangement sets up a central circulation volume, off which the various project spaces pivot. Hanging gardens soften the external living spaces and internal courtyards. Designed by South African architecture firm SAOTA, Sarbonne is an 11,000 square foot home sited on over half an acre. Located in Upper Bel Air, this modern masterpiece is arranged to capitalize views of the city below. The architecture draws strength from the concrete finish used to create monumental forms, and promotes a deep sense of tranquility further emphasized by the use of natural materials. Water features surround the central living space and skylights throughout pull the forested landscape inwards.
